Meta Lead Ads vs Landing Pages: Which Books More Jobs?

By the 9xBooked teamPublished Updated 8 min read

What is the actual difference between the two?

An instant form opens inside Facebook or Instagram with the homeowner's name, email, and phone already filled in from their profile. A landing page sends them out of the app to your website, where they wait for a page to load and type their details manually. Every extra step removes people — some of whom would have bought.

The trade-off, stated plainly.
Instant formLanding page
FrictionVery low — a tap or twoHigher — leaves app, loads, types
Lead volumeHigherLower
Cost per leadLowerHigher
Lead intentMixedGenerally stronger
Room to persuadeMinimalFull page of proof and detail

Data accuracyPrefilled, so typos are rareTyped, so errors happen

Notice that neither column is uniformly better. Low friction is an advantage when you have the capacity to work through volume, and a liability when your team's time is the scarce resource.

Be sceptical of the numbers you will find on this

We went looking for credible published data comparing instant forms with landing pages and could not find any. The figures that circulate — "instant forms convert at 2% versus 17%", "lead ads deliver 2-3x more leads at 30-50% lower cost" — trace back to agency blogs with no sample size or methodology, and the attribution shifts depending on which article you read. Meta publishes no official comparison. Treat the direction above as mechanical reasoning about friction, and settle the question with a test in your own account rather than anyone's benchmark.

Which one should your business use?

Start with instant forms if you have the capacity to call a higher volume of leads quickly and your service is easy to understand. Choose a landing page if your team is already stretched, your job values are high enough that a handful of serious enquiries beats many casual ones, or the work needs explaining before anyone will commit.

  • High volume tolerance, simple service, someone who can answer the phone fast — instant forms.
  • Limited team time, high job values, complex or unfamiliar service — landing page.
  • Brand new to paid ads with no website worth sending traffic to — instant forms, and build the page later.
  • Strong existing site with reviews, photos, and proof — a landing page will use that advantage.
Judge on the right number

It is easy to prefer whichever option shows the lower cost per lead. Track through to booked jobs before deciding. A landing page producing half the leads at twice the cost is still the better choice if it closes at four times the rate.

How do you get volume without the junk?

Add qualifying questions to the instant form. Two or three short questions — the type of work, the timeframe, the property type — keep most of the volume advantage while filtering the obviously wrong enquiries. Meta also offers a higher-intent form setting that adds a confirmation step before submission.

Getting the balance right

  1. 1

Ask only what changes your response

If knowing the answer would not change who calls or what they say, the question is costing you leads for nothing.

  2. 2

Use multiple choice, not free text

Tapping an option is nearly frictionless. Typing a paragraph on a phone is not, and it disproportionately loses people who were genuinely interested.

  3. 3

Put the qualifier before the contact details

Someone who answers a question first has invested slightly more attention, which tends to improve who completes the form.

  4. 4

    Set expectations in the form

A line saying you will call within the hour reduces the surprise factor when you actually do, which lifts answer rates.

What breaks most often on the technical side?

Lead delivery. Instant form leads sit inside Meta unless you actively connect them to somewhere your team looks. Businesses regularly discover weeks of unworked leads sitting in a Meta dashboard nobody opened. Whatever route you pick, test the whole path end to end before spending real money.

  1. 1Connect the form to your CRM, or at minimum to an email and SMS alert that reaches a person.
  2. 2Submit a test lead yourself and confirm it arrives where you expect, with all fields intact.
  3. 3Check that your conversion event fires so the campaign is optimising toward real leads.
  4. 4Re-test after any change to the form, the CRM, or the automation. These break quietly.
Test it monthly

Integrations fail silently. Nobody gets an alert saying leads stopped arriving — you just notice the phone is quiet. Submitting one test lead a month is cheap insurance against losing a fortnight of spend.

Frequently asked questions

Do Meta lead ads produce worse leads than a landing page?

They produce a wider mix. Because instant forms take almost no effort, they capture both serious buyers and casual browsers. A landing page filters some of the casual ones out through friction. Adding qualifying questions to an instant form recovers much of that filtering without giving up the volume.

Can I run both at the same time?

Yes, and it is a reasonable way to settle the question with your own data rather than someone else's opinion. Run them as separate ad sets with the same creative and budget, then compare cost per booked job rather than cost per lead after a few weeks.

Do I need a website to use Meta lead ads?

No. Instant forms collect everything inside the app, so you can run campaigns without a site. Most homeowners will still look you up before replying, so having somewhere credible to land helps — but it is not a prerequisite for getting started.

Why are my instant form leads giving wrong phone numbers?

Usually because the field is prefilled from an old profile rather than deliberately entered. Making the phone field require confirmation, or asking for the best contact number as a question, reduces this at a small cost in volume.
